"It was always an ill-advised plan to run live election coverage on anything but polling day itself as there were never going to be enough soundbites, quotes or interesting events to keep a whole department busy throughout each day, let alone the small hours. They must have money to burn."</p> <p>BBC officials have justified their actions, but have agreed to tone down their policy of 100% candidate monitoring. "We admit that in some cases we have overstepped the mark", said a spokesperson. "Posting snippets of intimate bedroom activities was probably a bad idea but we stand by our plans to change the swing-o-meter to a toilet-trip-o-meter each evening". </p>
