Alan Davies, 44, star of the TV quiz game show QI, stormed off the set of the show last night after Stephen Fry, 44, the game show’s genial question master, announced the scores at the end of the game.

Davies, 44, has been on the show since it started 15 years ago. When asked why he was quitting, Davies, 44, replied “I am quitting the show because the scoring and the questions are rigged. I have no chance of coming top because Fry always has to have the last word, penalising me for giving correct answers, and insisting that I am always wrong. I’m really pissed off with it.“

Davies, 44, went on “Take tonight, for instance. The question was who built all the straight roads in Britain? Every schoolchild knows that the Romans were responsible – Staines Street, Watling Street etcetera – but, oh no, Fry says the straight roads were there before the Romans ever got here. I ask you – how unfair is that? And, under the rules of the game, I don’t just get no points for my correct answer, I get docked ten points! And that sort of thing happens every week, three or four times a week. I’m really pissed off with it.”

National treasure Stephen Fry, 44, refused to be drawn on whether Davies, 44, would be on next week’s QI. “What’s important at the moment is that I am seen to be right – because I am. Allan can have his little hissy fit if he wants to, but it doesn’t alter the fact that I am infallible – just like the Pope; well, more infallible than the Pope right now.”

Our reporter managed to get brief interviews with some of the show’s other regulars to sound out their views on the storm. Clive Anderson, 57, barrister, off the record, insisted that both men had sound cases, and that he was sure to be representing one of them if it came to court. No one was available to interpret Dara Ó Briain’s, 38, comments, and both Bill Bailey, 45, and Arthur Smith, 55, had already left the studio for the pub.

Davies, 44, is the face the viewing public love to see on the show. A BBC spokesperson commented that everyone was waiting to see whether Davies, 44, would appear on the show again next week. “We are all waiting with baited breath. It’s really Quite Interesting.”
