NUJ spokesperson explained the dispute.
" For fuck's sake, surely everyone has seen snow before?
Why should our junior members be forced to stand out in the cold with a film crew just to show you snow in some remote village 99.9% of the population wouldn't give a shit asbout even if they'd heard of it?You think anyone cares how may market stalls there will be open? How many Hotel room bookings were cancelled?
Just because the snow came early this year is no justification, it looked just like the snow we had in January and February.
These poor guys have to dig their cars out of ditches, get towed up frozen hills by tractor, then stand there and tell viewers not to travel unless it's absolutely essential.
I mean, come on.
If Joe Public sitting at home in the warm with a coffee can't get to see the snow in snoreville-in-the-vale, then is it a loss?
This year reporters have stood up their knees in it in a field to demonstrate what knee deep snow looked like, somehow get around Yorkshire, to show different bits had lots of snow as well, and wipe snow off car roofs to show there was a car under it.
It's demeaning, pointless, and we've had enough.
Everyday they stand there freezing telling us how many people may have to "work from home".They're going to join them.
The next live snow reports will be from their own gardens, or not at all.
It's not like the snow there will look different, unless the dog's pissed on it.
And another thing, next time it rains and you want to show the world what a flooded river or ruined DFS sofa looks like, you can get stuffed."
