Yoghurts are always a good clue to prosperity.

One minute I'm eating full creamy 'just for you' with extra thick chunks of real fruit yoghurt and the next it's artificially flavoured wallpaper paste with gritty bits in it.

Reacting to the Chancellors spending review and outline for economic recovery, Mrs. Hubbard has outlined how she will be spending her allowance and income for the next 12 months.

"It is important to me that my family understand everything we do should help cut the national debt, and that we do all we can to cut our budget defecit and stop our overspending!"

The review, which is being held in the Hubbard's through-Lounge/Diner alongside a wednesday afternoon club tea and cake event, is focussing on many of the key areas:

"Culture, Media and Sport: We will restrict our trips to the Cinema, and will join Blockbuster, this will mean a 3-5 month delay on being able to watch the latest films, but should save money long-term. We will also attend more art galleries and museums that have free entry, so as to still enjoy the culture, but not at such high prices. Trips to see un-necessary and pompus theatrical shows will be cut back.

We will downgrade our Sky TV package to it's minimum, thus making considerable savings, and may look into freeview for the 2011-2012 review. Both our childrens sport kit will be purchased from JJB sports and will more than likely be a lesser brand or last years fashions, however this should drive significant savings.

Defence: The house alarm system will be switched off, so as to save on batteries and also reduce noise pollution. My daughter and I will downgrade from Tasers to Mace in a bid to reduce our defence spend. We will sell the taser on ebay to fund the Mace purchase. Spending on our new garden fence will also be reduced as we look to mend and make-do with what we already have. Committed spend on 2 cans of Cuprinol paint and protect fence treatment cannot be over-turned as they were purchased in 2007 and the return policy is only valid for 30 days!

Education: School uniforms are to be purchased in Tesco and Asda, so as to save on costs, and the childrens existing laptops will be refreshed and not replaced. Lunches will be made at home and will have to include meat left over from previous meals as well as multi-packs of own brand crisps and chocolate bars. Funding for weekly trips to the library will remain as will additional funds for after-school clubs.

Energy and Climate change: We will try U-switch, in an attempt to reduce our energy costs, as well as turning the washing machine down to 30 degrees for washes. Investment in a wind-turbine for the back garden will be postponed until after dad has fixed the guttering.

Home Office: Dad's vision of turning the spare room into a home office will be put on hold until 2012, as the need for a room where all his CD's, widescreen telly and reclining chair live, is less immediate now, and anyway we need a new washing machine.

International development: Letters to pen-pals are to be restricted to 1 per quarter, to reduce stamp costs as well as reduce the likelihood of a visit or exchange with Jorge in Poland or Carly in Brisbane.

Northern Ireland/Scotland/Wales: These are to be considered as prospective holiday destinations in 2011.

Transport: The family estate car is to be maintained and kept for 2010-2011, with minimum investment planned, except for an MOT and service. Additional funding for car washes, new tyres and various T-cut products and polishes are to be formally discussed so that they don't get added to the shelf full of cleaning products already in the garage. My son will be allowed to buy a 50cc moped, but will have to get a job to pay for it, and my own car will be sold once my daughter gets her pedal bike sorted and I have no need to pick her up from school.

Treasury: I will keep track of all the money, and that includes the change in the biscuit tin by the back door which I know is £10 light! Pocket money will be frozen for 2010-2011, but additional funding will be considered if it is for a genuine cause or need.

Work: Dad will continue to work

So ends my statement on the domestic spending review... Anyone for a bit of Victoria sponge?"
