Dear Mr Editor,
This is my attempt of re-doing the above story using the material as written by the others.
Thanks

'Mandela back in jail after unpaid parking ticket breaks terms of parole'

The former President of South Africa is back in jail tonight after breaking the terms of his parole with a unpaid parking ticket. "It is quite right that I am back on Robben Island where I belong," said a shamefaced Mandela, "people just don't realise how difficult it is to go straight after all these years."

"We had to act" said President Jacob Zuma, "we all admire Nelson for his good work but rules is rules."

The parking ticket violation came to light following an international campaign which called for a boycot of South African goods unless Mandela was jailed. Anti-Aparking protestors would hold regular rallies outside the South African Embassy dressed as Traffic Wardens and chanting the lyrics to the The Special A.K.A. classic: 'Fixed Penalty Notice for Nelson Mandela'.

"It's not just about a parking ticket," said Archbishop Desmond Tutu, "Nelson regularly drops litter in the street, plays loud music until all hours and many of his shirts have become a public menace."

Mandela took the long walk back to prison yesterday down a street lined with cheering parking inspectors. At one point Mandela paused to address onlookers and warn that the struggle against oppressive parking restrictions would go on, but was cut short when a traffic enforcement officer issued him a ticket for stopping in a controlled zone between the hours of 2pm and 4pm.

While he serves out the remainder of his sentence, the role of father figure of the South African Nation will be played by Morgan Freeman. Peter Gabriel is busy writing a protest song in support of the parking wardens titled 'Parko' and as a gesture towards the cause the South African Cricket Team will wear parking warden peaked caps for their next test match against India instead of their usual green and yellow caps .

Chaps,

It would only be a funny spoof if Mandela were not guilty for the original crimes, which he was.

The three of you have taken it to the next level without me.

Minus my dodgy Afrikaan a good hybrid of all of the above should do.

What do you think?

'Mandela back in jail after unpaid parking ticket breaks terms of parole'

We think this is worth a rewrite if Basil or anyone else fancies fleshing it out. The joke is that it's very unfortunate but they have to follow the letter of the law, and he promised to keep out of trouble etc.

Not sure about the South African accents, but maybe some more stuff about the world reaction, another song, another film etc all about the parking ticket...

Anyone fancy having a go...

Ex South African premier Nelson Mandella was returned to custody today for none payment of a parking ticket. Mandella had enjoyed nearly twenty years of freedom before this latest incident returned him to jail where he previously spent twenty nine years of his life.
Peter Gabriel is already in the process of composing a song to bring Mandella's plight to the public eye and the UN are convening a emergency meeting to discuss setting sanctions against the South Africa Government to bring about his release.
A South African governmental spokesman refused to comment on the matter except to say ' Watz all the blaady fass abat, it's only a blaady packing tackit. Mindilla only haz to stub his blaady toe and the willed goes fackin bonkers'.
