This announcement is going to spell misery for a great number of 'just having been dumped' sufferers and victims of unrequited love.'</p> <p>Many patients' have echoed Graham's criticism. Long term broken heart sufferer Trevor Hardy complained 'this is going to create a two-tier system. It's alright for the rich - they can afford to buy Michael Bolton's Greatest Hits - but what about the rest of us? We rely on public-service broadcasting to give us the wallowing in self-pity that How Am I Supposed to Live Without You? provides five nights a week.'</p> <p>NICE however has defended it's decision, describing the shows as 'not cost effective' and pointing out that that there is no clinical evidence to suggest that listening to cheesy ballads is of any benefit to sufferers at all. 'In fact some studies have suggested that they only act to delay recovery' explained spokesman Paul Gavin. 'What most people need is someone to tell them to pull themselves together and get a grip, not two hours of I Will Always Love You and You've Lost That Loving Feeling.'</p> <p>Doctor Lurve has vowed to fight the decision though, and is planning to take legal action against the body. 'They've failed to consider the wide-reaching benefits to carers in making their decision' he argued. His action is being supported by the Late Night Love Patients Group, and one member, who had to give up work last week to care for her son after being dumped by his girlfriend of two weeks explained 'the show might not be a cure for a broken heart, but it does offset his symptoms like excessive sighing, mooning about looking sorry for himself and telling everyone 'you don't understand - she was the only girl I've ever loved' for two hours a night.'</p> <p>A spokesman for Radio Bristol confirmed that the Late Night Love Surgery is in danger of being axed, but reassured listeners that if it was it would be replaced by a phone-in where they could complain about the fact that they were listening to a phone-in show instead of Late Night Love Surgery. </p>
