I thought they decided to compromise along the lines of having a 3rd class service but charging first class prices so the thing averaged out as 'bog standard'

First Group have waved away claims that they are planning to introduce a third-class service on their Transpennine Express trains, despite information revealed in the House of Lords last week.

It transpires that train operators can propose the introduction of "a third passenger class" under existing franchising arrangements, drawing swift criticism from RMT union and the Labour party.

In a statement, First Group deny any such plan on their busy commuter route that runs between Manchester and Leeds. "We have never petitioned anyone to introduce further classes of travel on our routes", the statement read. "For starters, with first class taking up so much room on our rolling stock, despite limited take-up, where would we put it? Moreover, with chronic overcrowding, the faint smell of piss, uncomfortable seats and a timetable so theoretical that it's been nominated for a Nobel prize in physics, it's not possible to provide a service worse than our current standard class".

Passenger groups reacted angrily last night as it emerged that financial projections for First Group's west coast mainline takeover will mean replacement bus services operating the entire line until at least 2026.

First Group have assured customers that it will be able to meet demand through its minibus subcontractor Jim's Coaches of Brentford.

Board member Susie Butcher said "Commuting is all about getting from A to B. When people book their train tickets, they aren't worried about minor details like what the rails are made from or if there are any trains.

"Without making these sensible efficiencies, we simply can't keep price rises under 63% per year, as we've hinted we might."

Chairman of the UK Train Passengers' Association, Phil Carson, said "It's bad enough that people have to travel to places like Wolverhampton and Stoke without being forced to travel there by coach.

"Have you ever tried to wee in a coach toilet? It's next to impossible."

We attempted to speak to a Virgin spokesperson but they were in a quiet carriage and said they couldn't talk now.

A train-travelling man was left mildly perturbed after a group of up to four humans entered the designated quiet zone on a train and showed little, almost zero, respect for the zone’s esoteric signage.

‘I don’t think they knew which carriage they were in. If they did, I’m sure they wouldn’t have been as murmury. They probably just thought everyone else was really tired,’ said the vaguely dissatisfied gentleman. According to the completely adequate person, the group began to blatantly communicate with each other, verbally, some 11 minutes into the train’s three-hour journey.

‘I had hoped the conductor would take notice and ask them to pipe down a bit, but they stopped talking just as he walked past. It wasn’t really a problem, I just had to put my book away and listen to some music, through earphones and at a respectable decibel level, of course.’

When asked why he himself hadn’t asked the group to quieten down, the disliker of loud noises stated that he feared he may ‘be attacked with bleach.’ The designated zone where silence is intended to flourish has since returned to the calming sonic equilibrium created as a train travels at high speeds across worn out tracks.

Self-powered vehicles are set to become commonplace on the British Rail network. Hammond describes the new proposals as "exciting" in the Governments latest money saving suggestions for commuters. When questioned on the viability of the scheme he said, " you would be surprised, comparative tests on the West Coast Main Line have shown that journey times using the new vehicles are remarkably similar to the express trains which were run behind the new vehicles on the same track at the same time".

The rotting decay of Britain's rail network is having surprise impact on the size of the infrastucture itself. "Things are simply breaking down much quicker nowadays" commented one railworker.

Mrblacker on "Train firm forced into name change"

Virgin Trains have confirmed that as of March 1st, they will have started to re-brand their entire firm and fleet, following a High Court ruling.

The company, founded by Sir Richard Branson and responsible for train services on the west coast mainline between London and Scotland, has been forced into the move after a passenger sued the company under the Trades Description Act.

46 year old Marian Travers took the firm to court, claiming that the name implied every train was unsullied by previous passengers and would be 'box-fresh'.

In his 64 page decision, Judge Hector Rodgers said 'It was patently obvious that no train, having been in service for more than 6 hours, could claim to be 'virgin'. After such use, 'mildly slutty' would be more appropriate.'

Further, he suggested that once a carriage had been in service for a minimum of a day, it should be known as 'whorish'.

'Anyone who has ever used one of the firm's services, would testify that there is no way that the company could live up it's appellation, especially if they've ever smelled the all too intrusive toilet smell from carriage D. Therefore I find for the plaintiff and recommend Virgin urgently changes its name to reflect a more accurate description of its service.'

Anthony Harris, the current Head of Corporate Blame and Hand-Wringing at the firm, confirmed a name change was urgently being worked upon.

"We expect to be able to re-launch our new name on time when it comes to headed notepaper. But our fleet of trains and carriages will take a further 6 months to re-livery."

However, he refused to be drawn on what the new name will be.

"What I can say is that it will reflect the heritage and good name Virgin has built up and will continue to suggest the very best in train travel." Bookies are offering odds of 2-1on that the new name will be 'T.A.N', standing for Tragic and Neglected.
