A controversial claim today is set to have music fans divided, as it says that a well-known lyric in a Robbie Williams song is nothing more than a cheap cop-out and a clumsy filler to pad the song out.

"I look like Kiss but without the make-up and that's a good line to take it to the bridge" croons Stoke's famous son and former Take Thater in his chart-topper Strong

However Oxford Music Professor, Clifton Bridge, has panned the line and says it may fool prepubescent teen girls, but not him.

"This line is fundamentally flawed. Not only is it crass and rubbish, it doesn't scan very well. In simple terms it's poor, smug and not terribly good. If you ask me it looks as if they couldn't think of anything good or clever to put there, so simply crowbarred that junk in, relying on the adulation of fans to overlook its ghastliness."

But the pint-sized popster has hit back saying. "This old bloke is a tosser and I'm brilliant so up his arse the silly old get. And anyway, who's sold the more CDs? Him or me? Exactly!"

The controversy comes amid rumours that Williams has buried the hatchet with his former Take That colleagues, and that now his solo career is on the skids, he's about to eat humble pie and beg for his place back in the popular boy band.

It's understood that Oxford Police have put Professor Bridge on round-the-clock Police guard, following reports that gangs of prepubescent teen girls are converging on Oxford in specially chartered coaches.
