The internet is to close this weekend for urgent engineering work.

The shadowy committee of warlords, senior politicians and nerds who operate the global network on which mankind is now totally reliant said that the move was necessary in order to hoover behind the computer through which all web traffic is routed. They advised users to seek alternative means of sending huge amounts of data in a microsecond, or to go outside in the fresh air for once in their sorry cloistered lives.

"Over the past 15 years a large amount of dust, hair and crumbs have accumulated behind the computer which controls the internet" said a technician. "It's getting pretty disgusting behind there in fact. I think I saw a mouse the other day. Through this short closure we hope to hoover behind the computer and to remove a piece of chewing gum currently clogging one of the USB ports."

Global internet users debated the issues in online forums and concluded that a single weekend without access to social media, online shopping or hardcore pornography was a small price to pay for the removal of the household dirt.

"Sure it's a little inconvenient" said one, "but you can't put a price on good hygiene. I can go outside, maybe."

Facebook have today announced the launch of a new feature to their social media platform.

The worlds leading social media application has developed the new capability due to extensive research within their worldwide customer base. The central feature of the launch is a new ‘Exterminate’ button on the user profile page. Now, users not only have the option to ‘Like’ and ‘Share’ content, they have the option to exterminate the providers of poor or annoying content.

“We are really proud of this new capability.” said a spokesperson. “Annoying and irrelevant content was becoming a real issue to our users. Now, with a simple click of the button serial providers of dull, boring and links to mindless commentary can be eliminated by controlled explosion.”

“Many of our users were finding that exposure to this kind of content was leading to a state of induced coma and we really had to do something.” She continued. “It’s a great feature and one I have used several times already. It has certainly enhanced my user experience and its great fun.”

Meanwhile, none of the social media commentators, normally active on the web, were available for comment as they couldn’t be located or had been admitted to hospital with instances of unexplained spontaneous combustion.

Breaking news, Middle Class children are more likely to be harmed by internet use that their poorer peers and it has nothing to do with the ability to afford a computer. According to researchers, the reason for this shocking statistic is linked exclusively to the relative attractiveness of wealthy children. We spoke to a known sex offender who said
I just can’t bring myself to fancy the poorer ones, they’re usually scruffy in their photos, and often fatter even than me.

The research also pointed to the inherent risk of meeting up with what they called "chavdren" (a compound word from chav and children). Dr. Dennis from St. Theresa’s college in London said
our research shows that one in 4 children under the age of 8 carry knives when meeting in person people they have previously chatted to online. This has created a Culture of Fear amongst sex offenders. In addition there are several offenders who have reported gunshot wounds from 6 year olds. Whether this is the same 6 year old, we don’t know.

So how can you protect your child?
•	Only let them use the webcam if they’re wearing a full Lacoste tracksuit.
•	Let them go online BEFORE their evening bath or AFTER they come in from “rough play”.
•	Only allow them to upload photos of themselves playing with knives and/or weaponry.

The most effective protection for Middle Class Children has been developed in conjunction with offenders and is called the “Working Class Backdrop”. It is available for all localities including “The Yorkshire” which comes with yapping whippet soundtrack and “The Cockney” with Pearly King Jacket and is available in most larger supermarkets to hang in front of your webcam. This product will give the illusion that your child is from a lower class background and is designed to protect them from grooming.
