Wow this is back in the news as the guy has lost his job after having been seen wrestling a shark...i thought I could add to the old story.

Jobless shark wrestling superstar to take on Octopus

Welsh wrestling star Paul Marshallsea now has more time to continue his shallow water wrestling career, news that has been greeted with total indifference by bathing children everywhere. Paul was made jobless when employers saw him choke out a shark on the internet while he was on a two week tour of Australia that saw him pin a cuttlefish lay a smackdown on a shark and take on three dolphins in a ladder match all to packed beaches full of terrified onlookers. “it’s hard but I do it for the kids and the love of beating fish to death with my bare hands”.

Responding to comments that the sport caused unnecessary mental suffering...to watching children Paul commented “It’s about respect isn’t it, you can’t have marine life swimming around thinking they own the bloody place”.

Making use of his new found freedom Paul's next opponent is an octopus in the big reef tank at the Anglesey sea-life centre (available on sky box office), the hell-in-a-cell cage match, it is hoped the spectacle of a man attempting a 7 arm arm bar on a giant polypus will prove a sell out.

A spokesman from the Department for Work and Pensions said "We understand Paul has found gainful employment wrestling sharks and will be removing any benefits he may be entitled to immediately".

South African Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been selected for the South African Olympic shooting team after managing to hit a target at a distance of ten metres from a seated position in bad light. The talented marksman is to hang up his running blades and train in a number of shooting disciplines including the Mens’ 10m Nocturnal Handgun and the Mixed Gender 50m Rifle event.

Police said a 26-year-old man is now in custody after mistaking his girlfriend for a shapely venomous snake with a curiously unsnake-like ability to walk upright on its hind ‘legs’. Police believe there is no other motive behind the shooting, though Pistorius had publicly criticised his partner’s choice of footwear in the past, claiming her flat-soled shoes gave her an unfair advantage when the two went on shopping trips together.

Witnesses claim they heard a shout followed by a gunshot then witnessed the silhouette of a man raising a gun to his mouth before blowing coolly down the barrel. Detective Sergeant Rudi Van Der Kirchhof of the Pretoria Police Department said ‘Judging from the size and location of the exit wound, this shot would have placed Mr Pistorius in the silver medal position on 250 points, just behind the Russian athlete.

Meanwhile, fellow marksmen and women from Team SA have described Pistorius’ shooting skills as ‘inspirational’. ‘To hit a moving target like that takes years of practice, the question is whether he can reproduce such accuracy in the big arena,’ said Wim Blenders. ‘In spite of his disability, Oscar has shown us in a few tragic seconds that there is nothing wrong with his eyesight.’

However, the trigger-happy athlete must now undergo a medical after South African medics suspected him of exhibiting signs of Marvin Gaye’s Dad syndrome. ‘I’m naturally upset to have taken a life in this way, but I’m really looking forward to ventilating some serious bullseye in Sao Paulo in 2016.

‘Let’s get it on !’

It's topical but has no real theme.

It may not have legs but it's got fins. I saw the wrestling shark story and the 'nearly' drowned Australian kid in the flood story too, so there's scope for some downunder themes.

Maybe your fellow biscuiteers could help develop it further? I'm off out otherwise I'd jump in!

News that sporting hero Owen Davies will continue his shallow water wrestling career has been greeted with total indifference by bathing children everywhere. Owen greeted fans at Cardiff airport yesterday after a two week tour of Australia that saw him pin a cuttlefish lay a smackdown on a shark and take on three dolphins in a ladder match all to packed beaches full of terrified onlookers. “it’s hard but I do it for the kids and the love of beating fish to death with my bare hands”.

Responding to comments that the sport caused unnecessary mental suffering...to watching children Owen commented “It’s about respect isn’t it, you can’t have marine life swanning around thinking they own the bloody place”.

Owen’s next opponent is an octopus in the big reef tank at the Anglesey sea-life centre (available on sky box office), the hell-in-a-cell cage match is already a sell out and it is hoped the spectacle of a man attempting a 7 arm arm bar on a giant polypus will finally bring the lesser known sport of ‘aquatic sea-life wrestling’ the recognition it deserves and possibly Olympic status in time for Rio 2016. When asked if the sport would be given Olympic status along with lobster curling, manatee dressage and kite surfing the IOC said ‘will it f*ck’.

Another go at a sort of sport story, this time inspired by the BBC who seem to be trying to get at least one story featuring Australia on the news every week of late. It's topical but has no real theme.

Stories posted on the FP have tags at the bottom of them, I assume that means whoever is editing the FP stories has to assign the tags. Putting them on your original sub would help them because then they can just use the tags from there.

I generally don’t put tags on my stories but have done a couple of times. One of those subs was used on the FP but the tags I’d put on it weren’t used. So I spat my dummy out and stopped putting tags on again.

Given that WoM is awarded to the story with the most hits, if the tags from the original sub were used on any stories used on the FP then it could make for some interesting use of tags.

Hmm... I’m going to go back through and tag my mild-mannered reporter story, just in case it gets used.

Maybe the recycling issue might have died away if I had decided not to respond at all, but then again maybe not. Mr 1-star troll has been at it for years now, after all.

Yikes - yes, that's what tags are meant to be for and they should ideally all be tagged. That's the theory anyway.

5 starring one's own subs does seem a little pointless - as I suppose is one starring such posts as a counter-balance.

Anyway, I have a question re tags - I notice some stories (including I think this one) are posted with tags. Is the idea of this to help the editor if the story is chosen for the FP? If the answer is yes, should most stories be posted with tags?

I’m sure you’ve made that comment before Oxy but I can’t find the original.

I have a theory that the person that one-stars everything you post is doing it in response to you five-starring your stories as soon as you sub them. I may be completely wrong of course, but next time you post something try leaving it un-starred and see if they still give it one (snigger).

If they do then log back in and give it 5 to get the rating back up.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with scoring your own subs by the way. I do think it’s a little unnecessary though, because it should go without saying that you think it’s good, otherwise why have you posted it?

Nope, I'm just Oxbridge, I have not used any other IDs and have no plans to. No idea who Custard Cream is or whether you or Wayland use any others.

Yes, it is slighly irritating when people make a big issue of my 'recycling' - although that's not really an accurate term, since I almost always update or otherwise modify them, hence re-posting rather than just bumping the original up. It's no big deal, lots of people do it and some of my FPs have made it at the 3rd attempt, which is the most I usually try. My November one about the US election, which was second for WotM, was recycled from a couple of months earlier. Lots of good stuff gets overlooked because there just happened to be something else the editor of the day liked better.

It's also slightly irritating and a bit bizarre that someone who I've never met (he know who he is and it isn't Bourbon, for the record) automatically one-stars everything I write and adds in most of the 'witty' tags, but there you go. I assume that's all meant to provoke a flounce from me. It won't.
