Lucy4: yes, I am interested. Got a link please to an explanation of Mr Shakespear's "Winter of discontent" joke?
_ _ _ _

Regarding the poor abused apostrophe: I feel like John Cleese seething "LOOK! IT'S PERFECTLY SIMPLE!!!"

"Its" as the posessive version of a personal pronoun does not have an apostrophe, any more than "hi's", "her's", "our's" or "Their's".

Fuck me, nobody told me it was this exciting round here these days! It's Muphry's law gone wild!

"An early summer is on its way" is absolutely correct, as is "It's not uncommon".

"South Wales valleys roosting grounds" is technically correct (although old fashioned grammar bores would hyphenate it) but is very clumsy, poor style and needs a good thrashing.

It have lots of mistakes. You wouldn't normally say it has got lots of mistakes just it has lots of mistakes and therefore you wouldn't write it's lots of mistakes.
Wayland- I was surprised when I thought you'd made such a schoolboy error, please hand your prize to the more deserving Bourbon.
My expertise on this matter is all a front, you know, I frequently have to check my address book for how to spell my own surname.
Talking of groundhog day/Candlemas, though, I can get from that to why the winter of discontent line in Richard III is one of Shakespeare's best jokes. If anyone's interested.

As a matter of possible interest to someone out there. Groundhog day corresponds to Candlemas (02 Feb) which, in Medieval times, was the date you took your Christmas decorations down. Imagine having to have your Christmas lights on all that time.

Amateur meteorologists today have been drawn to Bristol City centre, where a murmuration of Clarins counter girls has unexpectedly been sighted.

In weather circles such gatherings are linked to weather patterns that are associated with spring and sunny days.

"What we have in Bristol today, is an unusual phenomenon for this time of year, never in living memeory have so many perma-tanned, electric pink lipstick wearing Clarins girls been seen in these numbers in January" said David Wellbeck of the Met Office.

"It's not uncommon for one or two to been seen on the streets, but we have literally dozens wandering the precincts and shopping malls, followed by a thick fog of Chanel, CK One, Sunflowers and Dior. We don't know what migratory instincts have lead them to desert their South Wales valleys roosting grounds so early, but it can only mean that an early summer is on its way"

Whilst the USA and Canada, have the yearly Groundhog Day celebrations that are used to determine whether the end of winter is in sight. The most popularly known of these groundhogs are Wiarton Willie and Punxsutawney Phil, well kept as part of Groundhog Day festivities in Wiarton, Ontario and Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, respectively. Meteorologists in South Wales and the South West area have been using Clarin's girl sightings to gauge how long is left of winter.

Merthyr Tydfil's famous Cosmetics Ciara, is renowned as being an ardent sun-worshipper, with an almost 25% success rate in predicting the end to winter, folklore started in 1995 suggests that if Cosmetics Ciara can see her considerable shadow on 21st January, then the valleys can expect another 6 weeks of winter.

More soon.
