While I'm on about people I was once in plays with, back at Oxbridge I was in 'Thunderbirds the Musical' with TV maths whiz Marcus du Sautoy. Very nice bloke indeed. He inevitably played Brains and I was Gordon Tracey. Since the budget didn't stretch to flooding the stage, Gordon just sat around drinking and complaining he didn't get to go on any missions.

Thanks for the memory Brit embassy.

No. Nobody punched him.

He was in the First Class half of the split carriage (don't blame him, tbh...), and I was in the other half, so I didn't see him till we got off at Waterloo.

I had been holding in a guff for the entire crowded journey (it's the right thing to do - #EverydayHero) and let it out once on the platform, but it turned out to be a dud, so he wouldn't even have suffered olfactorarillily.

I once picked up a copy of Melanie Safka's 'My First Album' in what was the newly-opened Virgin record store in Brighton. It had a hole in a corner of the sleeve and I was put off by that, but some hippy sort of geezer with long blond curly hair explained that he'd drilled the hole himself so as to make it a second and, therefore, exempt from import duty, which was why it was cheap.

The poncy looking hippy geezer was, I realised much later, Richard Branson.

Fortunately for him, the record was OK.

Olympic 400m runner (rtd) Ewan Thomas was stood on St Mary's pier on the Isles of Scilly with some camera and production crew. He was dressed casually and appeared to be chatting contentedly and amenably. We were on the higher deck of the Meridian, an inter-island ferry boat, and the weather was jolly nice.

I don't mean to sterotype, but there were five crew, one tall slightly overbearing smart-casual older chappie who I pencilled in as the director; two shorter chaps (one with a slight paunch and the other with a jaunty cap)who were stood close to the camera and recording equipment, and I presumed them to be on the technical side. There was a rather attractive young lady, without make-up, in skinny jeans with an artistic air who was part of the jolly throng, and I allocated the continuity/creative role, and unfortunately a combination of prolonged leering at Miss Totty and the departure of our boat meant I wasn't able to precisely analyse and categorize the final member of the party.

Is that the sort of thing you're after?

Decades ago (in the Soviet era) my mother and my sister had a cultural holiday in Leningrad and stayed at a hotel where Elizabeth Taylor was apparently also staying. On one occasion, in the breakfast queue (I told you it was the Soviet era) they thought they saw the back of someone's head who might have been Elizabeth Taylor.

I suggested that they should casually drop into their subsequent conversation with friends some phrases like "As I was saying to Elizabeth Taylor during breakfast in Leningrad the other week ..." but they declined, probably feeling that do do so would be (1) posing (2) untruthful.

(Sigh. No celebrity ambition, some people ...)

I once copped off with Holly Hernandez under South Parade Pier , Southsea. She later went on to write a column for the NME called Holly's Demo Hell where people would send in demo cassettes and she would slag them off. She was very attractive and used to hang around with a mad girl called Debbie from the Midlands. It was mainly just kissing. At no stage did it progress to genital touching as the tide was on its way in.
