I'm confused.

I clicked on the above link, and found a heading of "Apartment Sized Mini-Fridge".

There is no way anyone could live in an apartment as small as that mini-fridge.

At a push, I'd say it was a "Bijou Studio Sized Mini-Fridge", and even then I'm being generous.

Concerned that a possible badger cull in August 2013 may affect visitor numbers to Cornwall, the county’s tourist chiefs are planning to use the cull to create a Badger Bonanza of attractions.

A spokesman said today; “Some may view the slaughter of thousands of badgers across the county at the height of the tourist season as a problem but we see it as an opportunity”.

“We have seriously looked at proposals to vaccinate badgers instead of killing them all but frankly there are no Tourist Industry marketing jobs in that”.

“We are in conversation with Olympic organisers to hire tiered seating units which can be placed at shooting sites and we could even sell season tickets for dedicated fans of shooting defenceless animals. Events like this would provide a useful boost to our already vibrant night time economy and for the police officers who would be deployed to ensure civilised behaviour it would be a welcome change from collecting vomit-covered and drunken teenagers from the streets of Newquay.”

“The tradition of ‘blooding’ young supporters viewing their first kill could be borrowed from our friends in the fox-hunting fraternity and badger blood may well become a new and eco-friendly form of body art, replacing tattoos (so tasteless) and face painting”.

“Nor will the gourmet be forgotten; badger burgers ("Big Brocks") are just one of the exciting food ideas we are looking at and hugely enjoying experimenting with. Though our food technologists did have initial problems with fur removal the use of industrial blow torches is now proving effective and gives an authentic smoky barbecue flavour to the finished product. We are also negotiating with Iceland Foods for the supply of frozen “Badger Bit Bags” to their stores and our marketing slogan “Good Food In Black and White” really sums up the spirit of this enterprise”. One local chef was unsure however; “There will be so many badgers and there are so few recipes”.

There are also plans to introduce “Plant a Badger” – a game which is already popular with farmers in many parts of rural England. The rules are simple; kill a badger and then plant it at the side of the road so it looks like a victim of a passing car. Points are awarded for artful display (loose body parts can be hacked off and then sold on ebay) and for the excited looks on the faces of passing children. Extra points are, of course, awarded for planting your badgers on main tourist routes through the county and for the length of time it takes the police to find your badger and then not investigate this breach of the Wildlife Act.

In a separate move the council today announced the immediate closure of its Ethical Marketing Department.

A desperate couple from Sao Paulo were forced to phone relatives in Brazil for help, when they found themselves marooned in the West Country.

The pair, whose rented car ran off the road in Cornwall, said the ordeal had been terrifying.

‘We had to book into a B&B outside St Austell, miles from any civilisation, existing on pasties and re-runs of the 1970s TV series, Poldark,’ they said.

A spokesperson for Roadside Rescue warned, ‘We get this all the time. Tourists underestimate the difficulties of travelling in the remoter parts of the West Country, where conditions may be more primitive than they are used to. It can be a jungle down there.’

Reports are coming in from Cornwall that a man-eating fridge freezer has been spotted basking in St Ives waters: "The massive beast came within yards of my boat as i was trawling round Zennor Head" said fisherman Blimey Windy.

Now speculation is mounting among surfers that the creature patrolling the coast around St Ives is an Oceanic Whitetip Shark.

The widespread panic has been made worse by frenzied media attention fuelled and circulated by local pirates and heavy drinkers.

Fred Gurnard, Chairman of the Shark Trust, has told the St Times Echo that Cornish waters are becoming an ideal hunting environment for these predators: "The beast that Blimey Windy saw was not an Oceanic Whitetip but a Great White Fridge Freezer" claimed the shark expert.

Holidaymakers have been advised to keep out of the sea and take refuge in the town's restaurants and art galleries while the Great White Fridge Freezer is still at large:

"The sea is not a safe place for innocent tourists while this blood thirsty killing machine is circling" said marine painter and cafe owner Alfred Wallis.

St Ives fisherman have refused to go back to work until the sea monster is caught: "I have got seven wives to support so i can't risk getting eaten by the Great White Fridge Freezer" said Blimey Windy from his usual seat in The Mermaid Arms.

I once ended a difficult relationship by calling the police and having her dragged away in hand-cuffs. When the custody officer asked her nationality she apparently insisted on "Cornish". Although brought up there, her father was a clergyman from Oxford and she lived in London. I flinch and cower whenever I see a “Kernow” flag now. Funny how many you see in England.
As I come from a line of English folk on both sides with no influence from other countries, home or overseas, for at least 10 generations, I am one of those people who cannot take any overt pride in my racial make-up for fear of being called a racist. I may pretend that I’m German.

Will His Steinness have to pay royalties for his Cornwall enterprises?
A spokesman for the 'Dutchy' said "One must cough up Ricky boy, it would be a shame if Padstow got broken".

MoB,
my comment was meant as gentle parody of the romanticised notions that some people have about 'Celtic' nationalism, Cornish nationalism being just one example. As the son of an Irish Roman Catholic (with a Welsh surname - 'go figure' as our American friend might say) and an Anglo-Scots Protestant I'm only too aware of the absurdity and fundamental stupidity of nationalism, religious bigotry and 'my tribe is better than your tribe' bigotry in general.
No Celts, Saxons, Angles, Jutes, Danes, Romans, Normans, Huguenots, Italians, Germans, Jews, West Indians, Asians or Solomon Islanders were harmed in the making of this post.

Hi all,

I'll address your points in order.

Oxbridge: I am neither casual or racist. A bigot and jingoistic (ironically of course) perhaps, but never racist. Aside form which the Cornish are not a race.

be reasonable : nationalism is never good, just look at Scotland! Interestingly when looking into the background of the Sons of Cornwall I stumbled across an interesting article which makes quite a good argument that “Celts” are an 18th construct and not really a distinct population. A bit of a nightmare for me as I’m a Celt, I have Irish grandparents.

Ironduke: Thanks. I’m annoyed though, I wish I remembered to work “moi luvvver” into the story.

If I’m honest I felt a bit bad writing this! I love Cornwall and I love Rick Stein, actually it’s only really Eric Pickles I’m not a fan off and he gets off pretty lightly!
