7, including yourself.

I didn't think the sub was brilliant either, to be honest, but better than some NiBs I've seen. Trying to be objective, I really think the idea was very good but the plot depended on the one big gag with not enough quips in support, where there is plenty of material. My writing style is far too rigid to get the big laughs, but I'm working on that. Slowly.

If this doesn't get used, it would make a lovely FP come Scottish independance debate time. Say if you twisted it a bit to salami-slice off all the undesirable or unfashionable bits south of the border and designate them as bonus bits for Scotland.

You could have a whale of a time 'bigging up' Scotland and making the UK (sorry - English) Parliament look disingenuously generous while Salmond & co get into conniptions trying to prevent dilution of their heritage. The bits in the middle could flounce about their status.

The Chancellor has today astounded critics by proposing that the City of Liverpool is to be forcibly given independence from the UK. He further announced the construction of a 20 mile wall in the North West of England.

In his annual budget speech, George Osborne justified this bold proposal to revive the UK economy by explaining that unemployment would drop by 165,000 at a stroke, complemented by 40,000 vacancies in the construction and security sectors to establish and maintain the border.

Osborne explained that the Home Office were particularly pleased, as the Police could achieve their targets without further cuts.

He noted that the loss of Liverpool’s comedians, such as Ken Dodd & John Bishop, and the self-reported musical heritage, would be a small, but necessary sacrifice.

Visitors to Liverpool would be given until 31 March to leave.

The Opposition Leader, currently Ed Miliband, accused the Chancellor of doing this just to get popular support, and he would support the proposal only if Newcastle was included in the plan.

Rumours that shadow chancellor Ed Balls retaliated against Tory critics of his 'fag-packet' economic policies by leaving deathcards on ministerial car windscreens, were firmly rebutted yesterday. A clearly furious Mr Balls shouted down journalists at a party rally saying 'Utter crap, I'll be referring these preposterous claims to the SSS' (socialist security services) before storming out of the meeting.

Labour press spokesman Erich Schmeisser denied Mr Balls had been acting in accordance with party orders but confirmed 'high command will rigorously investigate, of course'.

Notorious as the ace of spades calling card left on the dead bodies of vietcong soldiers by US infantry, the deathcard (inset) was employed by military 'psy-op' campaigns to inspire fear in the enemy.

On paper George Osborne had impeccable economic credentials. The 40 something-year-old won a place at Oxford University with an an offer to repaper all the dons' studies free gratis (paste included). References from his nanny and six certificates from a year at the Miss Holliwell's Dance School for Glowing Boys clinched the deal.

While studying sums at the elite university, he was showered with Old Spice, Brut for Men and L'Oreal products and now more than thinks he's worth it. But Mr Osborne’s high-flying economic career unravelled when he applied for the sought-after Chancellor's position.

His application claimed that he had not only balanced his chequebook whilst still at Primary School but had also co-authored numerous Halifax adverts, including the one where Howard sings and lots of people stand on each other and sail away into the sunset.

A professor, reviewing a piece of long division included with the application, noticed a suspicious similarity with the workings out of another top maths bod. Alarm bells rang when an eagle-eyed taxman (is there any other kind?) spotted a rubbed out name that, once held over a lit candle and rubbed with a raw onion, resembled the word 'grable'.

It was clear, he thought, that Mr Osborne had plagiarised almost the entire complicated problem which involved seven men with seven wives, sacks, cats and rats all, for some inexplicable reason, travelling on foot to a highly over-rated Cornish seaside resort.

After fooling some of the brightest minds in the Conservative Party for more than two years while attending posh dinners, smashing plates and and copying his best friend's hairstyle, Mr Osborne has now been arrested and accused of making up virtually the entire Budget.

“The defendant seriously undermined the famed integrity of the British political system and cheated several polygamous men and their pets out of a much-needed seaside break,” James G. Brown, a man who is also very good at sums, told Sky News.

He was unable to complete his statement as Adam Boulton punched him.
