There was a surprising radio award issued to two pensioners today.

‘Ethel and Vera’, better known to radio listeners as ‘The Two Old Biddies’ received a BAFTA award for innovation for their show on Radio Cleckheaton, broadcast in West Yorkshire

The programme has gained an audience of millions of fans, ever since the radio station owner, Albert Rowbottom, began airing their show, A Nice Pot of Tea and a Slice of Cake, last October.

Rowbottom, a former News of the World journalist, heard their lively banter and decided, unbeknown to them, to put a radio microphone in their living room, hidden in a plant pot.

The conversation of the two old ladies, aged 130 and 145 respectively, has been delighting listeners to the station’s evening slot ever since.

Their witty repartee, features reminiscing of ‘the olden days’ with frequent references to Florence Nightingale, the Boer War, the coronation of Louis XIV and the invention of the wheel.

However, the radio stars also keep up with current events and often talk about pop star Justin Beiber and how they’d like to make a real man out of him.

Rowbottom has plans for more new shows including Live at The Bowling Green and Coffee Morning Tales.

What, no pipe rack? You also forgot to mention the ample headroom, enabling hats to be worn at all times.

The new Nissan Micra beloved of elderly motorists will feature a green electric motor to save its elderly devotees fuel on their one trip out for the week. The model features extra load space for all those Lidls carrier bags (‘I’m a pensioner you know’) and a wireless tuned to 1954. Body colours will be limited to black and white only as the license is cheaper.

Performance tests have shown that with a following wind the new vehicle can hit 6 miles per hour in the outside lane of the motorway. The rest of the time the car will stick to a steady 4mph in a straight line, round corners and through red traffic lights.

Optional extras will include a tartan rug and a specially shaped cushion for small dogs to sit on. A new safety feature is a sensor which plays the recorded message ‘you won’t get there any faster’ to chastise pushy motorists who overtake on the inside at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour.

In other news the AA and RAC have called for drivers over 70 to have a grey flashing light fitted to the roof of their car so other motorists can beware.
